最近の私は、出勤時に家の前に牛がつながれていないかどうか確認することから一日が始まる。
今朝も確認。家の前の通りにはいない。よし。
It have became my morning ritual to check the street whether cows are there or not. This morning as well, I checked the street in front of my flat. No cow.
左に角を曲がったとこにもいない。OK。
Then turn left and I don’t see any cow. A good sing.
そして右に曲がったら、いた。しかも4頭。昨日帰宅するときには3頭しかいなかったはずなのに・・・。
And, turn right. Then I saw four of them, my god. I knew there were three last night.
こんな体勢で寝ているのまでいるし・・・。
One of them is even sleeping…
これらの牛はイスラム教犠牲祭のために買われたもので、今週金曜日にはみな屠殺される運命にある。貧しい人、親戚、そして買った人たちのものとして分かち合われるものではあるが、こうして目の前に可愛い姿を見せられると、なんとも切ない気持ちになる。
Those cows are bought for Eid- ul-Adha which is a Islamic festival to commemorate the sacrifince of Abraham and it falls on this Friday. Here in Bangladesh, Muslims are sacrificing cows and goats for this occasion. So you know the fate of these cows…
この時期は、買った人が牛を追って道を行く姿も良く見られる。一頭、７、８万から10万タカ（1タカ＝約1円）くらいするということで、親きょうだいや、近所の人とお金を出し合って買うこともあるという。分かち合いの気持ちを実践する素晴らしい祭りだとは思うが、金曜日は絶対家から出ないことに決めている。
This is also common scene in this time of the year. Cows running in the capital. It costs 70,000 to 100,000 taka (1 taka = 1 Yen) or sometimes more. Meat will be divided to 3 portions, to the poor, to the relatives and to those who bought cow. I think this is a good way to share one’s happiness to others. But I will never be out of my house on THE DAY. No way.
そういえば道端で餌（わら）も売ってました。せっかく奮発して買っても、それまでに痩せてしまったら元も子もないもんね。
