Welcome to SHAPLA NEER

SHAPLA NEER, a "Citizens' Committee in Japan for Overseas Support" have been working as a voluntary international non-governmental organization for 30 years. We are one of the oldest NGOs established in Japan.

SHAPLA NEER is an independent organization aiming for a society where all people can fulfill themselves socially and economically through their empowerment. We work with people in South Asia, such as Bangladesh, Nepal and India, as well as in Japan.

We work with the most vulnerable

Despite numbers of development agencies working in South Asia, there are problems, people, regions that are being overlooked. SHAPLA NEER defines those issues and reach the most vulnerable who have not received any support.

We influence lifestyles of the north

People tend to forget that we, especially the lifestyles of the north are one of the cause of world poverty. SHAPLA NEER not only focus on eradicating poverty though the empowerment of the poor, but also through reexamining the lifestyles of the north.

We believe in People’s Power to Change

“From ‘Aid’ to ‘Partners’” is our motto. We go beyond the “give and take” relationships and to build relations where all citizens, regardless of their birthplace, can learn from each other to make a better world for all. We believe in people’s power to change and facilitate their empowerment.
