What We Do

During the monsoon and cyclone season in Bangladesh & Nepal, there are many natural disasters that occur such as dirt landslides. Emergency relief aid has been provided since the great flood in 1974 when the first Shaplaneer volunteers landed in Bangladesh. Shaplaneer has also provided emergency relief & rescue, and recovery assistance in 1987-88 during another large flood, in 1991, 2007, 2009 during a cyclone, in 1992 at refugee camps, and in 1996 after a tornado.

In the past, emergency relief was only provided to regions where Shaplaneer worked in, but now aid has expanded to all of South Asia. Shaplaneer has assisted in India and Sumatra after large earthquakes, as well as Afghanistan.

Past Projects

Food Assistance in Nepal’s former Kamaiya region (2003)

During September-October of 2003, food assistance was provided to the people of Kamaiya through the partnership of a local NGO called BASE.

Emergency Relief in Bangladesh after a large flood (2004)

In August of 2004, food assistance, mobile clinical care, and seeds for crops were provided through a local NGO partner.

Emergency Relief in India after Tsunami (2004)

Emergency rescue & relief provided through a local NGO partner in India after the Sumatra earthquake and tsunami that occurred on December 26, 2004.

Emergency Rescue & Relief after Earthquake in Pakistan (2005)

Food and rescue assistance was provided in Pakistan through local NGO PNAC after a large earthquake hit on October 8th, 2005.

Emergency Relief in Nepal after large flood (2006)

Through the help of local NGO CSDR, tents, basic needs, food, medicine, and clinical care were provided to victims of the Nepal flood in October 2006.

Emergency Relief in Bangladesh after a cold wave (2006)

Through local NGOs GUK & COLI, cold protection clothes and blankets were provided to the victims of the cold wave in Bangladesh in January 2007.
